Sweet, Juicy Pears to Enjoy into Winter
- Generous crops of sweet, juicy pears
- Delicious eaten fresh or used for cooking
- Good keeping qualities for enjoying into winter
- Partially self-fertile
- RHS Recommended: Award of Garden Merit
Pear 'Conference' is a firm favourite for good reason, producing generous crops of long, bell-shaped pears with green skin, often attractively russeted, and sweet, juicy flesh. Delicious when allowed to ripen until soft and melting, the firmer fruits are equally good for poaching, baking and cooking.
The pears are harvested in autumn and have excellent keeping qualities, so you can continue enjoying your crop well after picking. Before there's any fruit to harvest, clusters of white blossom cover the branches in spring, giving you another season to enjoy and providing food for visiting pollinators.
Partially self-fertile, 'Conference' can produce fruit when grown on its own, although another compatible pear nearby can help increase yields. It also grows relatively well in cooler conditions and has received the RHS Recommended: Award of Garden Merit, making it a particularly good choice for UK gardens.
